Cairns

Providing the Far North’s center of activity, Cairns features various venues for shopping, from malls to specialty shops. Among these are the Pier Market, Rusty’s Bazaar, Trinity Wharf and the Orchid Plaza. It also provides first rate marinas for visitors and touring vessels. Cairns also provides great fishing, and diving, with premiere dive spots such as Green Island and Fitzroy Island offering more than 1,500 assortments of fish to be observed from up close. Along with Atherton, Port Douglas, Innisfail and Mission Beach, Cairns forms part of Queensland Tropical Coast, where great fishing, diving, and scenic natural wonders abound.
Atherton Tablelands
This is made up of several towns, each with its own charm and feature. It contains waterfalls, rivers, lakes, volcano crater lakes, even unique growth and wildlife such as the colossal Kauri Pine, ancient ferns, Strangler Figs, possums, Tree-Climbing Kangaroos, Cassowaries, and Bower Birds.


Mareeba

Some of the towns making up the tablelands are Mareeba, which features a rodeo held yearly; Kuranda, which features the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Karunda Wildlife Noctarium and the train ride through the rainforest; Tolga, with its wood crafting and Homestead Park; Atherton, with its crystal caves; Malanda, with its museum of natural history; and Millaa, and its waterfalls. The Eacham and Barrine Crater Lakes also provide excellent swimming and picnic areas. Mt. Hypipamee, and Wongabel State Forest, and Bromfield Swamp are only some of the area’s great natural treasure troves. Among the activities in which visitors can take part are horseback riding, ballooning, skiing, taking guided tours of rainforests and exploring the great lakes.
